Resources for Practitioners in Justice & Accountability
Recognising the opportunities to address atrocity crimes in Asia, AJC has commissioned and edited several reports on legal avenues to justice and accountability in the region. These include briefs on available legislation and causes of action for survivors of atrocity crimes in 9 Asian jurisdictions; a two-part report on making sanctions a stronger tool for accountability; and primers related to strategies to address refoulement.
Drawing on publicly available information and resources, Asia Justice Coalition collects, sorts, and consolidates updates on cases and proceedings filed under the principle of universal jurisdiction for atrocity crimes to advance international justice and accountability across the globe, including Asia.
In this 9-part series and with pro bono assistance from practitioners across the region, AJC provides jurisdiction-focused briefs on relevant criminal and civil causes of action that could support survivors of atrocity crimes in Asia. Jurisdictions include: Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh.
Sanctions are often the first public action taken by States to address atrocity crimes. In this report and with pro bono assistance, AJC provides a summary how general sanctions frameworks operate and how they can be made to work more specifically for survivors of atrocity crimes.
