Dhaka Tribune: ‘PM: Rohingyas have become a burden for Bangladesh’
On 17 October, the Dhaka Tribune reported that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in a meeting with the newly appointed Ambassador of the Netherlands said the Rohingyas have become a huge burden for Bangladesh as there has been no progress in their repatriation since their massive influx into Bangladesh three years ago.

Reuters: ‘ASEAN excludes Myanmar junta leader from the summit in the rare move’
On 17 October, Reuters reported that in an unprecedented move, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has decided to exclude the Junta representative from its Annual Summit and invite a non-political representative from Myanmar. The decision came about in the light of the lack of progress made on a roadmap that the junta had agreed to with ASEAN in April to restore peace in Myanmar.

VOA News: ‘Facebook Objects to Releasing Private Posts About Myanmar’s Rohingya Campaign’
On 14 October, the VOA news reported that Facebook has objected to the US District Judge’s order mandating release. The social network claimed that the court’s decision concerning private posts ‘creates grave human rights concerns of its own, leaving internet users’ private content unprotected and thereby susceptible to disclosure — at a provider’s whim — to private litigants, foreign governments, law enforcement, or anyone else’.

Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union to support the work of the ASEAN Special Envoy
On 13 October, the European Union reiterated its strong support for ASEAN’s efforts in finding a peaceful solution to the current crisis and stressed the need for Myanmar to implement swiftly and faithfully the five-point consensus, to begin a process of de-escalation and return to democracy.
