On 21 October, the Irrawaddy reported that Myanmar will not be invited to attend the upcoming G7-ASEAN foreign ministers meeting in person. The UK is serving as the G7’s host nation this year.

UN OCHA RELEASED IST OCTOBER SNAPSHOT OF MYANMAR
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has released its October Humanitarian Snapshot for Myanmar. As per the report, the humanitarian situation in Myanmar remains serious due to ongoing armed clashes and insecurity, as well as the COVID-19 pandemic. Three million people need assistance and protection services.

UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar cautions the international community on the release of political prisoners
On 18 October, UN Special Rapporteur Tom Andrews published his statement on the release of detainees by the Myanmar military on 18 October 2021. According to him, "while today's announcement by the Myanmar junta of the release of over 5000 political prisoners is welcome. It is important to remember that junta forces detained these individuals illegally for exercising their fundamental human rights.” Read the full statement here.
