During the meeting on 26 February 2021, Myanmar’s Ambassador to the United Nations Kyaw Moe Tun began his statement by asserting that he represented the ‘civilian government elected by the people’. He also stated that he opposed the military coup and appealed for ‘the strongest possible action from the international community’ to restore democracy. He ended his statement by raising a three-finger salute that has been adopted by the anti-coup movement.
