On Monday 25 January 2021 Myanmar was considered before the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR). Myanmar was previously assessed during the second cycle of the UPR in 2015. At that meeting, 166 of the 281 recommendations made were accepted by Myanmar. The review gave member states the opportunity to highlight key aspects which the Myanmar government needs to address. The review also presented an opportunity for Myanmar to give an update on the developments in the country. Following the review the AJC issued a statement highlighting critical international justice and accountability issues that require Myanmar’s urgent attention.
